Michael Field fields it as it is

Standards body slams Field
September 16, 2008

That, above, is a headline from the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation website.

Others in the Fiji media followed it, including the Fiji Times and the Fiji Sun.

What is more astonishing, is that both newspapers lost their publishers in military deportations, but, in the new, tame age, now accept their versions of what happened from the Fiji Government. Not only are they completely gutless, they have lost the ability to read freely available documents themselves! They would rather take the word from some unnamed Fiji Government hack spin doctor.

That is the same Fiji Government that had me seized and deported. In addition, had their own publishers seized and deported.

Are their reporters such mice; or are they so intimated?

All right. Lets back up one.

In case anybody wants to cut to the chase and discover immediately how bad and dreadful I have been, then go to this connection, although, I advise, it is long and tedious.

http://www.bsa.govt.nz/decisions/2008/2008-040.htm

What follows – by way of qualification – is my account of the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) and the appalling way in which both the Fiji and New Zealand media accepted a military government summary of what was in that BSA ruling.

The BSA is an independent, state funded body to deal with complaints about the broadcasting media. It deals with many complaints, some of which are about journalists. Such as myself. In the tradition of fair play, and all that, it is widely accepted that we reporters take it on the chin, that we do not argue with their Solomon like rulings. I will try to go along with this.

However, given that organisations like NZPA, the Fiji media and AUT's David Robie cannot be bothered to read the BSA ruling, and prefer to take the Fiji Government assessment of the situation, I will try to at least put some context into it all.

And, at Base One, is this: Bainimarama hates me.

To spare the poor reader any suspense, I have included, below, the statement of the Fiji Government about the BSA decision, and the NZPA account of the BSA ruling. Readers are also invited to Google the Fiji Times, Fiji Sun and Daily Post versions. And David Robie’s AUT account.

Welcome to Flat Earth News. The similarity between all and the relationship to the MotherLode Fiji Government maybe a coincidence.

Okay. I have assumed the reader has clicked on the link to the BSA above. If not, it might be useful to follow the extracts. I will go through it here. I add the rider than I am cautious about this; I passionately believe in the flow and nature of argument, even that from the Fiji Government.

My sympathy here lies with the reader who simply does not know they are being denied the full story.

And perhaps it is worth saying, early, that the whole BSA process was remarkably fair and detailed, anxious to please all sides and to ensure full balance and justice. Balance over truth. In fact, they were startlingly naïve and ignorant of the fact that they were adjudicating on a military coup in which people died. New Zealanders are like that; sweet innocents.

The BSA notes in its ruling that on March 7, 2008, I broadcast live on National Radio’s Nine to Noon programme about Fiji in which, shock horror, I am reported as saying the situation in Fiji is getting
“progressively worse”

Radical stuff.

I talked about the Fiji Sun’s Russell Hunter getting tossed out of Fiji. The same newspaper then accepts the Fiji Government’s view of the complaint about me. Oh well, the poor souls have to keep their jobs.

My broadcast was apparently listened to by a hitherto unknown Christchurch lawyer, Christopher Pryde, who, since the 2006 coup, has accepted the appointment of Solicitor General of Fiji. The BSA, in their wisdom, made no comment on the fact that a military regime had appointed a South Island lawyer to this post.

Pryde, of no known intellectual credibility, complained to the BSA (well, actually he didn’t and his note of complaint was so embarrassing that the BSA has saved him by taking it seriously) that my broadcast was "no more than an uneducated, ill–informed, deeply biased, unbalanced, and false account of recent events in Fiji".

That, I can live with. Critics are fine with me.

But this was a man from the Fiji military regime. He wanted more.

Thus the complaint to the BSA.

“Mr Pryde stated that Mr Field’s distaste for the Government of Fiji was obvious, and that his opinions had been accepted uncritically by the Nine to Noon host.”

Sigh. What planet is this man on?

The full complaint is detailed in the link given above.

The BSA, in its ruling, states the principles which guide it.

Being a humble hack, I will just point you to them.

What followed the Pryde complaint was a number of follow up questions and details.

Radio New Zealand, bless them, described me as:
“a commentator… engaged to comment on topical matters by way of their own opinion and analysis.”

Now, in the matter of the Fiji Sun and Russell Hunter, their publisher. Its funny to reflect that this same newspaper is now running the Fiji Government view of the BSA ruling.

In my broadcast I said Hunter had eight days to leave Fiji. Pryde said he had 21 days. The BSA, in their wisdom, found some significance in this. In other words, the BSA found it acceptable, thanks to Pryde, that tossing a man out with 21 days notice was okay; that Field was wrong to say he had eight days.

That’s fine. I was told eight days. I am wrong. Beat me up. It was 21 days. So much more civilised.

Pryde was offended by the idea that I linked Hunter’s deportation with the newspapers coverage of Mahendhra Chaudhry’s distinctly shadowy tax and donation matters. Well. On this I think the BSA is naïve and disconnected. But I will leave the readers to decide on that.

Lets cut to the chase here.

The BSA made some rulings (and in the interests of good Kiwi fairness I point to the link above) and the first matter in which I have been criticised is this. I said, on air, in public, to the whole nation: “And I’m just astonished this morning – the head of Fiji Broadcasting, who is the brother of the military–appointed Attorney–General, and the head of broadcasting’s a chap called Riyaz Saiyad–Khaiyum, has come out and said well the military were doing right because his staff were reporting rumours. I think it says something when the military–appointed management of a media outlet can now justify the military interrogation of their own journalists. It’s a dangerous world in Fiji to be a journalist there.”

What a shocking statement.

And the BSA has commented in rebuttal: “In the Authority’s view, Mr Field stated as a fact that the management of Fiji Broadcasting was "military-appointed". RNZ has acknowledged that this description was "not strictly accurate". Having reviewed the submissions from both parties, the Authority accepts that Mr Saiyad-Khaiyum was appointed by the Board of Fiji Broadcasting, not the military.”

Well......

If, dear reader, you believe the military appointed Attorney General’s brother got the job because he was the best for it, I am touched by your simplicity.

I do not believe it.

The BSA then embarrasses itself about whether people were given eight days or 21 days to leave Fiji.

Do they really believe the sum of the difference makes it right?

In my broadcast I left the impression, so the BSA holds it, that Justice Scutt disagreed with Justice Shameem.

Well, those of you who know anything about Fiji will know how funny that is.
But such are the dangers of live radio. You get your justices mixed up.

Is it important?

No.

But anyway, lets stay with the BSA. They say I got it wrong. There was, in their view, two errors. The first one being the Fiji Broadcasting appointment. Well. Father Christmas requires a suspension of belief too. Two “errors” like this. Okay. Put me up against a wall and shoot me.

The BSA then goes into a lot about the New Zealand Bill of Rights and all that. Stuff about my right to say things, about my right to vote, about democracy and all that. Shocking stuff. Clearly out of place in discussing Fiji.

“In the Authority’s view, Mr Field did not suggest that publishing articles about Mr Chaudhry was the sole reason for Mr Hunter’s deportation. The journalist was providing commentary and analysis on the situation, and was trying to build a picture for listeners about Mr Hunter’s deportation before the presenter changed the direction of the conversation. Mr Field was cut off at a point where his argument was not fully developed, but it was clear that he did not consider that publishing articles about Mr Chaudhry was the entire story.”

And you did not read this in the Fiji Times or the Fiji Sun: “In these circumstances, the Authority finds that listeners would not have been misled by Mr Field’s statements. It declines to uphold this part of the complaint.”

The befuddled Christchurch lawyer now running Fiji’s law circles complained I used emotive language such as "dragooned", "kangaroo court" and "preached".

Did you read this in the media coverage of the BSA decision: “In the Authority’s view, Mr Field was entitled to use those terms as he was giving his own views on the situation. Listeners would have understood that Mr Field was speaking in his role as a commentator, and giving his personal opinion and insight.”

They go on a bit. But this is the killer statement here: “In these circumstances, the Authority declines to uphold the balance complaint.”

You did not read that on NZPA, David Robie, the Fiji Times, the Daily Post or the Fiji Sun.

You have got problems.

Background….

The Fiji Government press statement:

New Zealand Broadcasting Authority upholds SG complaint
Sep 15, 2008, 16:38

The New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) has upheld the complaint by Fiji Solicitor-General, Mr Christopher Pryde against an item by Michael Field broadcast on Radio New Zealand in March this year.

Mr Pryde had complained that the update on events in Fiji in the broadcast was no more than an “uneducated, ill-informed, deeply biased, unbalanced, and false account of recent events in Fiji”.

Comments at issue related to the appointment of Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as head of Fiji Broadcasting, the deportation of Russell Hunter, Justice Scutt’s criticism of the Shameen Report, and the criminal attack on the judge.

In defence, Radio New Zealand had said that the statements complained of were not material to the discussion.

The BSA disagreed and considered all the statements were material as they contributed to the picture Mr Field was trying to build about a reign of terror in Fiji, in which officials and media should be afraid of speaking out.

The BSA said that the public has a right to expect that news and current affairs programmes would present material accurately.

Having upheld the complaint, the BSA declined to make any orders but said that the publication of their decision would serve as a reminder to commentators that they must ensure the accuracy of factual statements.

The New Zealand Press Association account:

Wellington, Sept 15 NZPA _ The New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) has upheld a complaint by Fiji's solicitor-general against Pacific Island affairs commentator Michael Field on Radio New Zealand.
Solicitor-General Christopher Pryde had complained a broadcast by Field in March was an ``uneducated, ill-informed, deeply biased, unbalanced, and false account of recent events in Fiji''.
The comments included criticism of the head of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who was the brother of the military-appointed attorney-general, and the deportation of newspaper editor Russell Hunter.
Field also commented on Justice Jocelyn Scutt's criticism of the Fiji Human Rights Commission report, which said the Fiji coup had been legitimate.
Field linked that with an attack on the judge the following day.
Radio NZ said that the statements complained of were not material to the discussion.
The BSA said that the public had a right to expect that news and current affairs programmes would present material accurately.
The BSA declined to make any orders but said that the publication of its decision would serve as a reminder to commentators that they must ensure the accuracy of factual statements.

Kanakuita taki na ose mate

John Samy and Francis Narayan's Charter is a dead horse.

Idiom Definition for 'Flogging a dead horse': If someone is trying to convince people to do or feel something without any hope of succeeding, they're flogging a dead horse.

This is used when someone is trying to raise interest in an issue that no-one supports anymore; beating a dead horse will not make it do any more work.

I do not know where else in the world, when public forums for hearing "the people's voices" only attract between 2 persons and 40 people, where civil servants are used to swell numbers, and where village visitations of the toa-suwelu crowd only attract a few people in the village hall, would one persist with the programme !!!

Heellllooooo .... Earth to Pie-in-the-sky NCBBF Charter Imbeciles ! The people are speaking!

I think we can safely assume this means a flat rejection of this crackpot, harebrained comical facade called Samy's Charter.

Vinaka Fiji ... Mate o Jo !

How inane was this brainless gala ?

VINAKA Fiji Times. I WONDER WHAT IDIOT THOUGHT THIS PARADE UP ? IMBECILES !

On Justification for the Finger Pointing

This is a BRILLIANT comment by regular Blog Contributor Tim .Vinaka Tim for putting it so succinctly.

"It never ceases to amaze me how the basic idea (both socialist and Christian) of a distribution of wealth according to need; the notion of human rights (even those less comprehensive and endorsed by the U.N, such as a right to life) get so readily corrupted by those who are basically dishonest and criminal in order to justify their actions.

Stalin, Mugabe, Bainimarama, Shameem, Kaihyum, Moore, and even certain religious leaders who've not yet come to terms with what 'leadership' is, confusing it with dictatorial rule.

These people are so self-interested and self-obsessed that they have set themselves apart as "elites", turning to extremes at both ends of the political spectrum in order to keep their own gravy train going. Interesting how someone in another blog noticed the commonality amongst these people of "finger-pointing" - me and you, us and them, I know best, do as I say not as I do.

These people clutch at anything to justify themselves. They are extremists.

It matters not whether their beliefs come from the left or the right politically - I've noticed characteristics of their behaviour from an extreme left and an extreme right poisition.

That is why they are all afraid of democracy and why as history tells us, they are all pushing the proverbial uphill.

The longer it takes, the more resentment builds and the more unfortunate their demise is likely to be."

Tale of a 'New Order'

Please read the following story from the pages of history with one eye tuned for the similarities in Fiji contained herein. I have always taught my children that History is important because it should teach us much.

Around 1917 the communists in Russia seized power and undertook to build a new society, hitherto unprecedented in the history of mankind .

The basis tenets were to create a "new man" in a "new order" with the following characteristics:

- all land was to belong to all for "productivity" sake
- it was to be a-religious: denying God, denying the existence of the immortal soul and recognizing only the material aspect of life as real
- all citizens to be denied ethnic affiliations and become one people
- the meaning of life in the new order was based on the person's usefulness to society which the Ruling Regime decreed would lead to a better, wealthy and happy life of future generations. Recognizing this, the individual would necessarily be happy.
- the Ruling Party of Communists were to have unlimited power over that society.

METHOD

Immediately it became obvious to the initiators of the new society and creators of the new man that several existing cluster groups of people would delay the implementation of this task. So, the Regime set about harassing, arresting, killing and destroying millions of these people "as a class ," i.e. these included the following peoples:

- the aristocracy & nobility
- media journalists
- well respected civil servants
- the successful middle and merchant class
- successful farmers
- Religious Clergy
- Intellectuals (scientists, scholars, writers, artists, actors, professors, teachers, engineers, physicians and white-collar workers)

These people they mocked and incited against each other by encouraging mutual denunciations. And by their continued harassment and trumped up prosecutions , eventually these groups turned into a limp submissive doormat.

In addition political opponents and members of their parties were also destroyed.

All power (legislative, judicial and executive) was in the hands of communists. In their zeal to turn the country into one giant "oneness", they found they had to promise the people some crumbs--termed "material choices"-- until "better times."

However, these "better times" were getting put off continually, until generations passed and no one could see further than the garden post.

The expectations of the regime under Stalin were that :
- The new society would treat communal property like their own
- The new society would work very hard to better their world
- The new society would participate in public meetings and look after their neighborhoods voluntarily.

RESULTS

BUT what began to happen was that those in power who had access to material things, saw no reason not to avail themselves of these blessings and embarked on amassing & possessing anything their heart desired.

Government workers started to see no reason (since the State used them for their convenience) why they couldn't just "take" what didnt belong to them (ie public property). So they did . Morale remained low and worse, workers did not see anything wrong with "thieving" what they needed. In fact corruption GREW & became worse than ever. This story is a good example.

The worker also became indifferent to his job seeing that he was being forced to do work that he was not appreciated for with the majority of his money taken away in state taxes.

And lastly the individual began to resent the State's demands that he attend meetings and bang on a drum he wasn't happy to drum because
a) it was outside work hours , and
b) State ideals was not something he was interested in particularly esp if he didnt have water in his taps, he had to walk to work because roads were so bad no buses travelled, and no money to send his child to school ..... so he didnt see the point.

The Communist State tried its darndest to destroy the the people's Culture and the Churches by critiquing their values & their leaders, arresting clergy and cultural leaders and pitting denominations against each other.

But they failed as people's faith rose to the surface, so they were forced to "tolerate" new Churches being founded, built, and the resumption of services, baptisms etc. in order to try and remove resistance.

The Communist mind-set in this day and age now tries to use religion to enhance the "morality" behind their idealism.

In regards to the attempt at foisting the "one" brand on all their ethnic groups in Russia, this has been a dismal failure. Instead these efforts led to the accumulation of belligerent hostility of fraternal peoples to each other, individually and as a whole toward the Russian people.

IN MODERN TIMES

Those with the Communist/Socialist mind-sets continue to spread their methods and propoganda around the world today filling vacuums of power, and crying for "coexistance" and cooperation" after the damage is done ... good examples are Cuba, Hungary, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Czechoslavakia, Afganistan .... the aftermath is followed by world donations and new technologies because everyone wants to believe in good being done.

The communist/ socialist mind set is usually characterised by False Promises and Self- deception coupled with Arrogance. It is a hard thing to oppose arrogance because its not tangible, and when it' s not opposed, it multiplies. Certain freedoms are given lip-service but woe be to those that critise the State.

The word "re-structuring" is used A LOT but actually the status-quo is kept with die-hard opportunistic supporters replacing others. And BLAME is usually directed to political predecessors.

INSPIRATION

Vinaka vaka levu to the following that kept faith in their principles, morality and their integrity - Fiji Sun, the Fiji Times, my fellow Freedom Bloggers, the Methodist Church, PM Qarase, Opposition Leader Beddoes, NFP, certain NGO's in Fiji, Chiefs that have spoken out, Provincial Councils and other Leaders for their principled stands against the Military Dictatorship in Fiji on the people's behalf.

As I said in my post yesterday the regime is fighting a losing battle against goodness and light.
The hardest thing to control is the Human Heart. It is clear the people of Fiji have not accepted the military's warped contention that underneath their malevolent conduct, there was good intent. We have heard that hogwash before with Stalin, Hitler, Mugabe and Amin.

Martin Luther-King said : History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.

Fiji needs TRUTH

I am heartened already by the VERY SMALL turn-outs at the Charter public meetings. Between 5 and 40 people so far at each venue. And as for forcing civil servants to be part of the rent-a-crowd at Churchill Park the other day .... well John Samy (NZ citizen) really must think the people are Fiji are idiots.

The regime is fighting a losing battle against goodness and light.

The latest news that junta is looking to take more funds for the dissemination of the Class 6 essay they call the "Charter" validates the fact that the Military Regime in Fiji has proven itself aimless, failing to take responsibility for it's actions and then creating new dysfunctions in order to alleviate or redirect blame (its always the people's fault, or the media's fault, or the Chief's fault)

They have shown time and time again that they are the champions of misinformation, useless oratory and baseless explanations. They have (useless) knowledge But no wisdom. They are spiritually dead.

The people of Fiji have not accepted the military's warped contention that deep underneath their noxious conduct, there was good intent. We have heard that nonsense before with Stalin, Hitler, Mugabe and Amin.

Until they accept that truth is not negotiable, that morality and decency is not optional then they are all but lost.
All the decrees, promulgations and twisted force-line legislation cannot change the fact that it is impossible to GOVERN the human heart.

Bainnimarama and his thugs need to stop running from the truth ... they need to admit that they have indeed killed, plotted, mutilated and thieved from the people of Fiji.

Only then when the the truth can be acknowledged as the sure and firm foundation upon which our Nation and our Society operates, can we start afresh.

Truth is not recognised by people who would rather be left to wallow in deception, indifference and pretentiousness, and the pride that will not let them admit they need help.

Truth is not an option . It is a rock-solid fact of life. It is not a concept or a belief or ideal. It is not open to interpretation, negotiation, or debate. Truth is not convenient to you and it doesn't matter whether you like it or not. Most of the time , it WILL hurt and step on toes.

Now we hear that the dictators and his entourage will be going to Brussels and the UN to lie some more. Really !

Fiji needs not cowardice and more lies, but the truth to begin healing. Bainimarama, are you game ?

Bush Law or the Rule of Law ?

This week we witnessed another death at the bloodied hands of the Police and Military in Fiji.

Police/Military brutality is wrong. It’s morally wrong. It costs us the families and taxpayers much hurt, misery and and a lot of money.

It’s not an effective tool for preventing or reducing crime. Even if Teleni, the superficial Police Commish and Aiyass refuse to look at what happened to Baleiloa as a crime, it is still a fact that police/military brutality is still a crime.

Before the combined beatings endured by the now dead CRW soldiers Selesitano Kalounivale, Jone Davui, Epineri Bainimoli and Lagani Rokowaqa in 2000, ..... and the now-dead civilians Baleiloa, Rabaka, Malasebe, Verebasaga in 2007 and 2008 at the hands of policemen dressed like military or military dressed like police , I assumed that the apologists for and proponents of police/military brutality were merely maladjusted. Now, I’m not sure.

It seems there is a loud and dysfunctional minority in Fiji that actively supports this type of thuggish behaviour.

These supporters of thuggery could not care less about the truth of any incident even though they come out with some kind of "politically correct" statement every now and then ... Shyster Shameem, Father Arms, Aiyass Khaiyum, Archbishop Mataca, Akuila Yabaki , and the FLP are all in this shameful boat.

  • Shyster Shameem started this trend of supporting illegal and criminal behaviour in Fiji with her justification of Baini's coup .

  • Father Arms recommended that
“As the military regime was more or less acting outside the Constitution, the NCBBF should take the opportunity to push through the electoral reforms and amend the Constitution, by taking advantage of the military authority and ignoring the legal constitutional requirements for making such changes”.
  • Archbishop Mataca got into bed with terrorists when he also didn't say anything when these people got bashed or killed. What does his silence say to us his flock?

  • Aiyass Khaiyum as superficial iI-AG can't see anything wrong with Teleni NOT WANTING to investigate treason charges , calling the laying of charges "a stunt".

  • Akuila Yabaki pipes up every now and then but still urges us to "move the country forward" nevermind about any immorality involved ! What is the good reverend drinking ???

  • The FLP's Jo Cabbage supported the idea of a military coup right from the beginning, and Chaudry, well we all know he's just a political lout anyway.
This pro-brutality crowd has continued to endlessly make excuses for bad decisions by those in charge of law enforcement.

Some have advanced the theory that Rabaka was smoking marijuana when he was beaten by police, and that this somehow justifies the way he was treated. Others say that since the Baleiloa was a hardened criminal , he had it coming.

Whatever, police/army personnel are supposed to be trained to make arrests without punching offenders in the face, neck and body repeatedly and damaging internal body organs.

Still, the pro-brutality crowd is not going to let facts stop them from believing what they want to believe.

These people make excuses for brutish behaviour no matter what.

One grog-swiping group theory holds that the pro-brutality crowd harbor resentment because these people either as a group or as individuals did them wrong at some point. Maybe.

I’m not particularly interested in trying to understand the pro-brutality crowd or understand why they support the authorities abusing the rights of individuals.

I categorize them with alcoholics or people addicted to cigarettes.

When they want to get help they can be helped.

Until then, talking to them is a waste of time; no amount of logical rhetoric is going to change their minds.

As Jonathan Swift wrote, "It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."

______________________________________________

I am concerned about the people that are influenced by the pro-brutality loudmouths.

Most people in every day life don’t devote a whole lot of their thinking to politics or government issues. They think about everyday things like their friends, jobs, money, families, church, etc.

The people that think about politics and government mostly think about what the everyday media outlets cover: national and international issues.

In my corner of the world, most people go along with what they perceive to be the experts and the majority - it is their form of decision making. Everybody does it on issues they can’t or don’t devote much mental energy to.

But the loud minority that condone illegal and ruffian-like behaviour should be treated as outcasts by people of decency.

The pro-brutality crowd does not have a vision for providing effective policing. They merely want the system to be more retributive preferring to see wrongdoers taught a lesson through pointless force. (The same school of thought translates to the methods by which the so called Peoples Charter is being shoved down our throats). .... Force-line.

This doesn’t prevent or reduce crime.

It’s using delinquent activity to clarify and amplify the military's social hierarchy, and to justify their continuous abrogations and arrogations of the law . It’s not good for investment. And it costs us our moral and monetary hide.

The Police and the Army in Fiji now have serious issues. Both these authorities have a very unhealthy climate .

The bad decisions and illogical reasoning behind the scenes have seriously corroded good order and discipline in the department. Police/army brutality and other problems are a symptom of the lack of moral hygiene and discipline in the land.

We are now paying for these bad decisions. The average citizen & taxpayer who would rather think about how to pay the coming bills and what to do for food on the weekend is going to have to devote a small amount of mental energy to understanding the problems facing the authorities that are supposed to protect us from the next death.

For the next death could be you.

Understanding these issues is necessary for us to get past the shrillness of the advocates of brutality and deal with the question of whether law and order still exists in Fiji, and whether we appreciate it enough to fight for it's continued existence.

RIP Josefa !

Is Vore talking to God?

Today I am greatly disturbed to read this article about a tirade allegedly given by Frank to the villagers of Nabuyanitu where Frank says he has received divine instruction to carry out the coup (double click image to enlarge it).

In what is supposed to be a multi-cultural democracy, this raises some very important issues.

Which God was he talking to?

Surely not our Christian God (?!) as I cannot see how a supposedly humanitarian God would instruct a someone to embark on such a selfish brutish mission and inflict such a massive amount of economic and social destruction and misery on a country.

Did God also tell Frank to continually lie to the world about the path back to democracy?

Or just maybe, is this another pitiful attempt by Vore to exonerate himself of responsibility for his crimes?

By blaming his belligerent and murderous actions on a God, he is behaving exactly like a demented serial killer.

Some time ago, there was a documentary about John Scott's killer Apete Kaisau, (apparently aired in NZ again last night according to corespondent blogger Tim) in which Apete blamed his actions on a higher authority . Apete's defence was that God determined the being gay was wrong because he said so in the bible, so Apete seeing himself as the divine hand of God, took it upon himself to brutally remove John and Greg out of this world.

I will hazard a guess that it the same pattern with Frank Bainimanana and his nutty officers?

Vore's use of religion to justify his actions is vile and obnoxious to people of all faiths who do not see the hand of God in anything that has transpired since December 2006.

What about the families of the men the army and police have murdered ? Can Vore say to the families of
Malasebe, Verebasaga and Rabaka face to face that it was God’s will that their loved ones were bashed and kicked to their deaths?

But perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree ........ Perhaps the higher authority Vore talks about is Satan who commands him to inflict such evil on people.

And to make mattters worse, it is Vore who levels accusations of religious passion on his enemies accusing the Church of being evil.

In reality, we all know that Frank Bainimarama clinging to power by the gun is no different to a terrorist killing in God’s name.

“Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame upon us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given, as now lately...”

Where has the Police Oath disappeared to?

Is there officially no law in Fiji ?

Especially since the Police have now demonstrated their refusal to be accountable to their oath of fidelity to the rule of law and the sovereignty of the people as expressed in legislation ?

When did the Judicial Oath evaporate in Fiji ?

What happened to ? :

"I, Hon. Acting Chief Justice A.H.C.T. Gates
Hon. Justice J.E. Byrne
Hon. Justice D. Pathik

swear according to law, ................. and I will do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of Fiji without fear or favour, affection or ill will. So help me God"

The Giant Babakau Theory and more

After the 2006 Dec coup, I warned in many of my postings of the dangerous trend that was emerging from the rogue Fiji Military Men who engineered this coup.

This trend was one that encouraged the systematic warping and twisting of the truth, of the law , of interpretations of the law and interpretations of the various legislation so that wrong was made to look right and right was bent to look wrong.

This was followed very closely by many bizarre actions, pronouncements and publications (eg. Shyster Shameems justifications of her mate Frank' actions) - an all consuming-poisonous diarrheic outpouring of what we know as pure propoganda.

This hasnt stopped, but luckily for some of us, we have been blessed by our Lord with the gift of independant thought and LOGIC which enables us to see through pure bullshit.

Teleni's latest gaffe indeed stamps us as truly up there with the most loony in history.

Anyway you know the story but I for one am so sick of it. And I know of thousands of our people that feel the same way.

All the daily bullcrap and the looney bizarre way of thinking these people operate in. It has got to the stage where they truly really believe their own crap, and its is so warped, it truly beggers belief.

Anyway, to illustrate my point,
if there was a contest held at the sorry institution that is currently the Fiji Military Forces Officers Mess for officers to submit theories on ANY subject the following results are what I believe would illustrate my point . ie the highly un-evolved and warped state of "logic" these people believe to be their truth :

Below are the winners:

COL Driti
3rd RUNNER-UP

Subject: Probability Theory

If an infinite number of Fiji Military Forces men riding in an infinite number of Niranjans Rental utes fire an infinite number of shotgun rounds at an infinite number of highway signs between Suva and Nadi , they will eventually produce all of Fiji's great literary works in Braille. ________________________

COL Epeli Ganilau
2nd RUNNER-UP

Subject: The Mechanics of Pressure

Listening leads to Yawning which is Contagious.

I yawn to equalize the pressure on my eardrums.

This pressure change outside my eardrums unbalances other people's ear pressures, so they then yawn to even out my pressure.

CMD F. Bainimarama
1st RUNNER-UP
Subject: Motion Mechanics

The earth may spin faster on its axis due to deforestation in the Fijian interior.

A simple analogy is as follows.

If you watch the interim Attorney General spinning around very fast, as he does quite often these days, you will notice that his rate of spin increases when his arms are brought in close to the body.

Using this analogy, you will observe that the cutting of these Fijian tall poppies may cause our planet to spin dangerously fast which is why we have to keep moving forward.

COL Lewnski Band Bugler

HONORABLE MENTION

Subject: Fijian Consonants

The quantity of consonants in the Fijian language is insignificant as they frequently travel and migrate.

If omitted in one place, they turn up in another.

For instance the CH in Lau turns up in Nadroga as an H. The Chinese will find it hard to learn Nadrohga.

COL Teleni Ketepoke
GRAND PRIZE WINNER

Subject: Sustained Motion

When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when babakau is dropped, it always lands buttered side down.

Therefore my proposal is to strap giant slabs of hot buttered babakau to the back of 100 tethered cats, the theory being that the two opposing forces will cause the cats to hover, spinning inches above the ground.

Using the giant buttered babakau/cat theory, I could perpetuate a constant hoveration over SDL and Mick Beddoes with this sub-judice-terranean craft, which would not be considered inciteful since it would be spinning off the ground and therefore not in the Public Order domain (since it was off the ground).

Nonsense and madness

Great stuff from the Fiji Times EDITORIAL 4th September, 2008 covering the Fiji military regime's madness.

Stop the nonsense

THE process of seeking public opinion on the proposed People's Charter is nothing less than a farce.

It is impossible for anyone in this country to read and form an opinion of the document within the time frame specified by field officers and their police escorts.

On Tuesday night the proposed charter was distributed to people in the Nausori Parish Hall.

They were expected to read the document in two hours while listening to the views of the team sent to proselytize the message of the interim government and the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

At the end of the session, attendees were told to fill forms to declare their support, or otherwise, for the proposed People's Charter.

This is ridiculous.

Every individual must be allowed time to thoroughly read this document which will have an obvious impact on their lives.

They must also be given the opportunity to discuss the issue with their neighbours, friends, relatives or people whose views they respect.

At the very least, anyone who wants to read this literature must be given a week in which to read the document, seek opinions and make a choice.

This would mean that the proposed charter document be delivered to homes on one week with the forms being collected seven days later.

It would also mean that citizens do not have to make a decision with a police officer or soldier hovering in the background.

The architects of the charter know full well the perception which ordinary people have of the police and army. They view these officers as enforcers of State policy and fear the repercussions of rejecting this document.

Intimidation is the only word we have to describe the process.

At Navua on Wednesday night, people at Tokotoko, Calia and Raiwaqa gathered for a Ramayan recital in their settlements.

At these religious gatherings, government teams accompanied by uniformed police and soldiers in plain clothes distributed the charter document and demanded they be signed on the spot.

Much earlier in this process we made the stand that if the regime is so bent on implementing the charter, it must not waste taxpayers' money and time.

The people of this nation must not be used to legitimize the policies of the interim government, the army and the NCBBF.

Nor should civil servants be travelling round the country, neglecting the jobs for which they are paid in what is so obviously a political campaign.

The interim government must decide once and for all whether it wants the people to have a say in the governance of the country.

If the people are to decide, give them time and stop the intimidation.

A needless Tragedy

Words cannot express how sad I feel about this tragedy. It was preventable.

The Bus Company, the LTA and the authorities that are meant to protect us let these victims down and they must answer ! The whole situation typifies the mess our country is in.

The Insidious Evil Charter

Thank you Mr Beddoes again for pointing out the obvious. Not that we don't know.

Please educate your friends and family about NOT accepting this evil document and NOT signing any piece of paper. Bhaini and the military and all those associated have shown time and time again they cannot be trusted, so why trust these people now with your private details ?

Sign at your peril. You have been warned.
